Every conceivable type of weather has been thrown at us in Cape Town this past month. After a week of snow and rain, it looks like we are going to have a fairly decent weekend.
The warmer weather means that the kids can get back into the pool (it’s freezing, but they don’t seem to feel it), and tuck into their favourite icy treats. We were sent some Ice Bombs a while back, and they’ve been the firm favourite ever since.
We used to make our own ice lollies, just so we knew what was in them, as most shop-bought ones are full of refined sugar and goodness knows what else. Ice Bombs is a local brand, created by parents who also wanted to make sure their kids weren’t reaching for processed foods to snack on.
The whole range is made by hand, in small batches, with locally sourced fruit, making them not only a healthier option, but a local one, too. Each of the five flavours have been kept simple to highlight the natural taste of each fruit, and they are all vegan and Halaal-certified. Currently, they have Lemon, Strawberry, Litchi, Mango and Granadilla, with plans to launch Pineapple by the end of the year.
Our kids loved them, especially the older ones because the lollies are far bigger than most, weighing-in at 150g each. They are great for fussy eaters, as they are naturally sweet, but contain all the nutrients from the fruit without having to get the child to eat whole pieces of it.
